Consumer-Driven Healthcare

The main consumer-driven healthcare sectors in the U.S. include telemedicine, retail clinics, and urgent care. ARAC is working with key stakeholders in the urgent care sector, together with academic and governmental partners, to address challenges to improve antibiotic stewardship.

Superbugs In Stock

Eight of the 12 largest U.S. supermarket companies, including Walmart and Trader Joe’s, received an “F” on a new report card grading corporate policies regarding antibiotic usage in their private label meat and poultry supplies. Superbugs in Stock was released Oct. 13, 2022.

Label Claim Lacks Integrity

Many consumers choose higher-priced steaks, burgers and other beef products from cattle that have been raised without antibiotics. The USDA approves meat labels with claims such as ‘‘Raised without Antibiotics’, but how confident can shoppers be that they are, in fact, getting what they paid for?

The Antibiotic Resistance Action Center (ARAC) was created to preserve the effectiveness of antibiotics by engaging in research, advocacy, and science-based policy. ARAC is comprised of epidemiologists, microbiologists, communications and policy experts focused on finding out-of-the box solutions to combat antibiotic resistance.
